One happy occasion follows another

Almost every personality in the Tamil film industry was seen hurrying to attend two memorable occasions on Friday. One was the wedding reception of Bharathiraaja's son, Manoj, who recently married Nanthana in Kerala.

The wedding reception was held at MRC Nagar, and the big VIP was Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. After greeting the couple, the writer inside Mr. Karunanidhi was drawn to Sahitya Akademi award winner Jeyakanthan. The two were seen engaged in animated conversation.

The other wedding was that of actor Vijaykumar's son, Arun Vijay, who wed Aarthi. This was held at a luxury hotel in south Chennai. The VIPs had a tough time travelling between the two locations. Superstar Rajinikanth attended both functions.

In the morning, during the rituals, the atmosphere was solemn. But, colour and glitz dominated in the evening during the reception. Directors K. Bhagayaraj, K. Balachander, Saran, Parthiban, R.K. Selvamani and others greeted the newly weds. How close the film industry is to the establishment was apparent as politicians and businesspersons rubbed shoulders with the stars.
