Sanjay Dutt`s wife Manyata has reportedly left for the famed Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir to pray, but minus her husband. She has left behind Sanjay to spend time with his three best friends, who live in different parts of the world. They were in Mumbai for the New Year and Sanjay was keen to spend some more time with them.

`Manyata left for Vaishno Devi after their New Year`s party with some girl pals for three days. Initially, Sanjay, who never says no to his wife, agreed to come along. But then she saw his heart was set on enjoying the time he had with his buddies whom he rarely gets to see because of his schedules,` said a source close to the couple told IANS.

`These guys have been his closest friends from childhood and are no part of the film industry. Though he has many close friends in the industry like Suniel Shetty and Bunty Walia, these three non-film friends are Sanjay`s closest confidantes. He tries to get them to come over whenever he has some time off,` added the source.

Manyata didn`t have the heart to drag her husband away to Vaishno Devi. `Though she really wanted her husband to accompany her, she didn`t want to deprive him of his precious time with his pals. She decided to make this trip to Vaishno Devi an all-girls` thing while Sanjay chilled out with buddies, watched films and played games, back home before he resumes shooting later this week.` The year is a decisive year for the Dutts, Sanjay Dutt Productions is about to take off and they`ve signed some of the best directors in the business.

`Ideally, Manyata would`ve wanted her husband to pray. But since he was in the mood to play, she let him be. There`s a perception that she has been alienating her husband from his pals. Manyata wants to end that.` Incidentally, the Dutts` New Year party was not a low-key affair by choice. `They had invited everyone, but hardly anyone was in town,` said the source.

Will it be Cambridge, film stardom, fashion or chilling with the £10m already in the bank? We talk to Emma Watson about the life ahead

Is Emma Watson a bit of a madam? Given 10 years of international superstardom, £10m pocket money, hot and cold running Chanel, the undying hearts of a million billion children, and all by the age of 18, I imagine anyone would be. Certainly, she`s a bit aloof, a bit otherworldly, a bit most-popular-girl-in-school, when she arrives at the studio, two PRs tottering after. "We`ve met before," I say, as she holds out her tiny princess`s hand. We only met for two seconds, of course, last year at a charity ball. She goes bright red and brushes an imaginary bit of hair from her face, clearly — and winningly — flustered.

"OhgoshhaveweI`msosorryIjust . . . I don`t remember," she says. Sigh. Silly me! She must meet hundreds of fans every day.

Watson is tiny and pretty and delightfully brought up. There is nothing remotely suggestive or arch or sexy about her. A doll that has just been taken out of its wrapping, she is a refreshing antithesis to the ripped tights and bleached seaweed hair of the Peaches and Pixies. She wouldn`t dream of nicking clothes or getting publicly drunk or, indeed, doing anything vulgar at all. She remains like, omigod, super-embarrassed about once being linked to the Razorlight front man Johnny Borrell — "Ridiculous: I haven`t spoken to him since" — and charmingly at a loss when I ask her what is the starriest thing she has ever done.

"Um . . . I asked for a bed in my dressing room recently," she says in her crisp, fluttery voice. Well, what about buying the ski chalet for her 18th? "That`s a family thing," she says, smiling. "We`re all going up there for Christmas. I love skiing." And asking all the boys at Stowe to stand up for her when she came into the room? Blank horror and incomprehension. "No. I would never. Can you ever imagine me saying that? More than anything, I just want to be treated like everyone else."

Which is not difficult, in a way. Small and slim in a pair of jeans and a neat Cacharel V-neck, you probably couldn`t pick Watson out in a crowd. She`s just another schoolgirl, and that`s exactly the point of her. As Hermione Granger, she embodies The Ultimate Girlie Swot — a clean, shrewd, principled young lady, largely unaware of her effect on others. She`s much prettier than your average schoolgirl, of course: in profile, a veritable Sargent, all pinks and whites and Burberry eyebrows. But, she says, she`s not into that vanity rubbish. "Spending a whole day getting ready is ridiculous," she says. She normally does her hair and make-up herself, having learnt from growing up around make-up ladies — "My surrogate mums. I hate wearing an outfit that looks too put-together and perfect. I choose the things I wear myself because I`m such an OCD control freak".

Little by little, however, Hermione Granger is undergoing a transition. Next summer, as her sixth Harry Potter is released, she will film the seventh and eighth all in one go, perhaps because, with every passing month, Harry, Ron and Hermione are getting older and looking less like Harry, Ron and Hermione.

"I`m at a strange age," says Watson, wrinkling her brow and asking for an orange juice, which doesn`t arrive. (She is simply too lovely to ask twice.) "I`m not a woman yet, but I`m not a girl any more. [Film companies] say, ‘Oh, in a couple of years you`ll be perfect for this.` I`ll be like, yeah, but I want to be studying English then, so it`s going to be quite tough to choose between the two."

Apart from Harry Potter, she has done the minor girlie fantasy Ballet Shoes and is now promoting her role as Princess Pea in the upcoming mouse cartoon The Tale of Despereaux. But what will she do when she`s too old for ribbons and mittens and magical kittens? "I`m going to have a battle on my hands, because after Harry Potter has finished, I don`t know," she says. "I definitely want to go to university."

And with three As this summer from her boarding school, Headington School, Oxford — "I worked incredibly hard" — the world is Watson`s oyster. She says she`s keen on the Ivy League, and she has been linked to Cambridge. I hope she goes: there`s a tenacity and honesty about her that seems wasted on the silly world of blockbusters. Witness her brilliant campaign as an eight-year-old to get the part of Hermione. "I rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed," she recalls. "When I got the part, people were like, ‘Why you?` And I just remember seeing a L`Oréal advert, and coming out with an American accent, ‘Because I`m worth it.` That was my answer then. My answer now is . . . I don`t know, I just really got her."

So in 20 years` time, I can quite easily see her being a brilliant lawyer or civil servant — in a good way, of course — and perhaps she sees it too. "I have enough to hold me together without fame," she says. "I have a really supportive family and a full life away from Harry Potter. It`s unlikely that I`ll be part of anything this big ever again, so I need to deal with that. I`m not going to take a job just because, shit, I`m not doing anything else." She still loves acting, naturally — she would even, steady chaps, go nude. "Yes," she says. "For Bernardo Bertolucci. It . . . depends. I`m not getting my kit off any time soon, but it is part of my job."

Watson divides her time between her father`s house in Hampstead — her parents are divorced — and her mother`s in Oxfordshire. Rather sweetly, she is archiving all her dresses for her young twin stepsisters. "I`m hugely sentimental," she says. "I collect and collect and collect. I have boxes full of postcards, letters and photographs." Off-duty, she spends her time doing ordinary school-leaver stuff, such as hanging around Oxford nightclubs with her friends. "The truth is, I`m not very cool," she shrugs. She`s not really into stepping out of line — she has never been tempted to date Daniel or Rupert, for example. "The public are desperate for it," she rolls her eyes. "It would literally be like [a royal marriage]. Luckily, luckily . . . It would be such a nightmare." She believes in love at first sight, but won`t be drawn on the boy she`s dating at the moment. I suspect he is a "civilian" from among her Oxford friends — she has, in the past, dated someone from a local boys` school. Is she in love? "I don`t know," she says, before going a bright shade of cerise.

For all her protests that she really isn`t cool, and for all the provincial nights out and boxes of keepsakes, I can`t help noticing she does love a fashion bash — the Chanel couture, the National Gallery, always deliciously attired in cream — and I definitely know someone who has styled her. So what`s really going on? "The parties are fun if you`re with friends," she says, although meeting her public is often awkward. "I think it`s hard for people to know how to act when they meet me. Some people try incredibly hard to avoid anything to do with Harry Potter, fame or acting or whatever, and I really do appreciate it, but it can be quite awkward too. It`s hard meeting new people, for them to know quite what to do."

So . . . is she a bit of a madam? And if not, why not? Watson giggles. "It`s really hard to say what`s jealousy and what`s people not liking me. People might just generally think I`m a bitch," she says. Well, I don`t. I think she`s simply divine.

Eyebrows were raised after Verma and Reitesh Deshmukh, actor-son of the Chief Minister, accompanied the CM as he visited the hotel yesterday.

Deshmukh also faced criticism from a section of the media, which said he had gone on a `picnic` along with son and Verma. Downplaying his visit, Verma said, "Let me clarify that the Chief Minister did not invite me as I have never been even formally introduced to him.

It was just that I happened to be with Riteish at that time, whom I know very well." He also said that he has "no intention" of making a film on Mumbai terror strikes.

The film director said that no one should derive any other meaning from the visit by politicising it as he maintained that it was time to fight unitedly against terrorism. Bollywood filmmakers, who are known to have used some tragedies as their movie plots, are being cautious this time keeping in mind the shimmering tension among the public.

"A humble appeal to Mahesh Bhatt, Ram Gopal Verma, Sanjay Gupta, Rahul Dholakia and Apoorva Lakhia, Sirs, what`s happening in our beloved Bombay is terrifying and sad," an SMS doing the rounds said reflecting the vox populi. "Don`t insult us by thinking of making a `realistic` film glorifying or capitalising on this situation.

Avoid fried food and carbs, don`t miss your workout and don`t deprive yourself. Just some of the suggestions by Bollywood`s svelte and superfit stars who tell all about their daily regimen.

Shilpa Shetty: I don`t avoid any food. My calorie intake is about 2,000 per day. I don`t need that much carbs because I don`t do manual work.

I eat non-vegetarian food every day except Thursday. My breakfast is a bowl of porridge and normal tea. Then I work out (three-four times a week). After I return, I`ve a protein shake, two dates and eight black raisins. My lunch at 2.30 p.m. comprises one roti (bread) made of five different kinds of grain. And I must have ghee (butter) on my roti, can`t do without ghee on my roti, vegetables done in refined oil, chicken and daal.

Then if I`ve a craving for something sweet I have a kulfi or a chocolate. I`ve green tea late afternoon and I`ve lots of hot water throughout the day. Evening, I`ve a flavoured soya milk. Then a cup of tea, no food until dinner, unless I feel hungry, then maybe an omelette sandwich.

Dinner at 9.30 - lettuce salad with pomegranate or apple. And I avoid roti in the night. I`m a late sleeper.

Suniel Shetty: I take about 1,500-2,000 calories per day. But I work out. For me it`s breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. I don`t avoid any food and I eat as much as I like without stuffing myself.

I don`t monitor my carbs and calories. I go by my body requirements. For breakfast, I`ve mom`s cooked stuff, etc. Sometimes I try brown bread and egg white. I don`t avoid carbohydrates during the day. I`ve brown rice with two vegetables in the afternoon. Dinner is soup and salad and fish or meat. Thrice a week I don`t have meat. But I`m not vegetarian. At 11.30 a.m. I have fruits. Then at 4 p.m. I snack on biscuits or something light. Early dinner at 7.30 p.m. is very important.

I don`t belong to the protein-shake or steroids school at all. But my body knows its requirements. And the fact that I`ve a 30-inch waist at 47 proves I`m getting my food right. I binge on Saturdays. I`ve a sweet tooth and my wife Mana has to keep it away from me. Thai food is my favourite. It`s healthy and when I was shooting in Bangkok, my fitness level was at its peak. Mana makes wonderful Thai food. Chef Solomon (the head chef of the Taj group) is my favourite cook.

Himesh Reshammiya: I`m following the 1,400 calorie a day diet. I`ve stopped rice, rotis and sweets completely. When I`m not dieting I eat everything, no restrictions on quantity or intake.

Neil Nitin Mukesh: My calorie count would be about 2,500 a day. Then I burn out approximately 1,000 to 1,100 per day. These days I`m eating steamed fish for both lunch and dinner. I take in approximately 140 grams of proteins. Besides that, I avoid carbohydrates and fatty food as much as possible because there`s a tendency to put on weight in my family.

Tusshar Kapoor: "Protein shake with muesli in the morning after workout. For lunch I take roti, tandoori chicken with vegetables. In the evening I have egg white. For dinner, I follow the same diet as lunch, but avoid roti.

Celina Jaitley: I eat seven mini meals every day after every two-and-a-half hours. Breakfast is a must. I`ve lots of fruits and nuts. I also drink seven-eight cups of green tea a day. But no calorie count because my intake depends on the amount of stress per day.

Bipasha Basu: I follow no diet regime at all. I just work out like crazy in the gym and keep on my toes the whole day.

Rahul Khanna: I don`t have any one diet plan to stick to. I try and eat as healthy as possible. I prefer home-made food and plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and gallons of water.

Riya Sen: I can`t diet! As soon as I think of dieting, I start thinking of chocolates. But I`m into controlled eating. Every time I`m hungry during the day I eat. But I control the quantity. I`m not over-ambitious about my workouts. I`ve never had a really major weight problem. I hate the over-worked-out look in women. I believe Indian women look best when they`re slightly voluptuous. I love to swim, do light weights, attend dance classes and I do spinning.

Rohit Roy: Never followed a diet chart, nor counted my calories. I avoid deep fried food, alcohol and sweets. Being a Bengali I fall for the temptation of sweets. I avoid that the most.

Kareena Kapoor might not make it for Golmaal Returns` success party tonight at Vie Lounge in Juhu. She`s down with a raging fever and a throat infection. On Sunday night, Kareena attended an event at Parel and collapsed after coming home. Says Bebo, "I am in awful shape right now. I am burning with a 101°C fever. I have a throat infection. After attending the event on Sunday, things became so bad that I collapsed after coming home. I was in such terrible shape that my mom had to call in the doctor. He`s giving me injections so that I can at least stand on my feet."

Says Kareena. "I think my collapse has been caused by overwork and exhaustion. I have been working non-stop for the last 6 months round the clock. Even if I get half a day off, I am shooting for some ad or the other. I can`t talk. I had to cancel Sajid Nadiadwala`s (Kambakht Ishq) shoot yesterday. My body is acting up as I have constantly been working 20 hours a day. When mom heard I was going for the shoot yesterday, she forbade me from doing so. She`s horrified and has been scream- ing at Zayed (Bebo`s secretary) and me to stop over-stressing myself."

Will Kareena attend tonight`s success party? "Not as of now. It all depends on my health. I am shooting for Kambakht Ishq at Afghan Church tomorrow but I haven`t told mom as yet about it. If I tell her, she will scold me again. In fact we were to shoot an underwater sequ-ence at Film City, which will now have to shot later as I can`t shoot underwater now."

Kareena says she`s shooting so much that she doesn`t have a break at all now. "I will have to go straight from my shoot to the airport for Karan`s (Johar) film in USA on November 23. Saif is also there but I think we will take a break for a week in mid-December. I will come home for Christmas and New Year`s Eve. I had been offered lots of money to perform for New Year`s Eve but I have refused them as I think it`s tacky."

Actress Priyanka Chopra admits that she hasn`t rested for more than a year now. 2008 especially has been crazy with five releases already to her name and sixth round the corner in the form of Dostana. However, she doesn`t mind all the excitement coming her way as she hardly has got time to mourn over the failure of her movies or revel in the success of Fashion. Joginder Tuteja catches up with Priyanka Chopra hours before her Dostana gets ready to hit the screens.

Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku, Drona, Fashion and now Dostana - Whew! [Laughs] Ya, these are indeed exciting times. I could use so many adjectives to describe what I feel but well, in the end it`s all so scary. There are so many expectations that one attaches to a project. It is like sitting in Board examinations month after month.

Dostana still sounds like a safe film after all. Promos give an impression that it is an out and out fun film. There are a little bit of emotions attached to the film as well. At the end of the day it is mainstream cinema and it has to be interesting. Dostana is not a random candy floss entertainer. Since the film has been made for commercial audience, it has to tell an engaging story. Here things turn really different. That`s because when I interact with the characters played by Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, it gives a different dimension to a man-woman relationship. It`s really fun because I am there with these two guys who are supposed to be in a romcom relationship of their own!

A film with two men in a romcom affair? And you were still game for it?
I was sold the moment Tarun (Mansukhani) narrated the film to me. I didn`t have any apprehensions because Tarun was so clear in admitting this very basic fact to the world on screen. He wanted to bring things out of closed doors and make the world know that this too is a part of society around us.

But wasn`t there any apprehension about non-acceptance of the film? What if it doesn`t turn out to be a hit? Also, Tarun is a first time director.
You can`t pick a film thinking whether it would be a hit or not. How can you even do some calculations? Yes, you do assess the commercial viability of the subject but beyond that you have to leave it to the conviction of the director. And let me tell you that I wasn`t even thinking about Tarun being a debutant director here. I have worked with quite a few since I made my debut and while some of them have made fantastic films, some haven`t. But that can`t deter me from saying no to someone just because he/she hasn`t been entrusted with this responsibility before. Come on, someone gave me a first chance too!

Karan`s association with the project would have reassuring enough though?
Having Karan around is great but Dostana is Tarun`s baby all the way. It is written and directed by him and knows the subject inside out while Karan hardly came on the film`s sets. Moreover, I myself come with so many questions while working on a film and sometimes it can become really testing times for the directors. Still, Tarun braved all of it and answered all my questions. That shows his understanding, commitment and conviction.

You earlier mentioned that Dostana has some emotional moments as well. The KJo effect?
I won`t say that the film has trademark Karan Johar stamp of emotional moments in Dostana. But then yes, there are moments where you get a lump in your throat. There is some softness in heart that comes on and just like there are some ups and downs in every feel good entertainer, the same is the case with Dostana too.

Softer songs like `Kuch Kum` and `Khabar Nahi` do promise that, isn`t it?

Yeah. In the narrative they really do well. I know that songs like `Desi Girl`, `Maa Da Laadla` and `Shut Up and Bounce` are a rage today but I know for sure that once the films release, others too would pick up well amongst the audience.

Coming to your much talked about look; there are talks about the hard work you put in shaping your body for Dostana.
[Smiles] It`s great that after Fashion, my look is being noticed in Dostana as well. However, I know for myself that hard work was there in Drona or Love Story 2050 or for that matter even Don. It`s just that currently we are talking only about Dostana or Fashion.

But your weight loss is quite apparent in Dostana?
It`s my luck that I was working on both Fashion and Dostana together. For the early part of Fashion, I had to put some weight to depict the chubby look of a Chandigarh girl. Then for the Mumbai shoot of Fashion which showed my journey to the top as a supermodel, I had to loose weight. The look I acquired for Fashion also helped Dostana because I was training hard and was fast acquiring a well toned physique.

Last but not the least, one can`t help but ask this question. How does Bobby Deol`s character bring the twist in the plot of Dostana. And please don`t say - `Watch the film`!

After the first schedule of ace director Mani Ratnam`s upcoming multilingual mega project Ravana, India`s most glamorous celebrity couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, has left the location in the Malayatoor forest near Kochi, Kerala.

Aishwarya and Abhishek were staying in a resort beside the Athirappilly waterfalls near Chalakudy town for the last two weeks. They arrived at Nedumbassery airport on Tuesday morning for their return journey and will be back on 14th November for the second schedule of the film.

During the shoot, the director and his crew were keen in taking maximum effort to keep Aishwarya away from the prying eyes of fans and media. Aishwarya dons the role of Sita in Ravana and it seems Mani Ratnam does not want to expose a single frame with costume. The security was so strict that neither the media nor local people could get a view of the glamorous actress. However, it is reported that she reported on location in the costume of a Tamil Brahmin lady.

Mani Ratnam is making this film in Hindi and Tamil simultaneously. Vikram will play the villain while Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai is the lead pair in Hindi; Vikram will play the lead opposite Aishwarya in Tamil. Based on the grand epic Ramayana, Ravana is produced by Mani Ratnam`s sister Sharda under Ratnam`s banner Madras Talkies.

Chandrayaan-1, India s first moon mission, has been successfully put into the lunar orbit today between 04.51 pm to 05.04 pm IST.

With this achievement Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reached a milestone in the international space arena. This is the first time an Indian built spacecraft has broken away from the Earth s gravitational field and reached the moon.

Talking to ANI in Bangalore, ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair, said with this achievement ISRO has virtually written a history in the Indian space programme.

Expressing happiness on ISRO s accomplishment, Nair added that it was a make-or-break situation since morning. He categorically said that the task was crucial but was carried out with optimum precision.

ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) Director, S. K. Shivkumar said that it couldn t be better than this. Now, the spacecraft has been put into lunar orbit with an apogee of 7500 kilometre and perigee of 500 km.

Shivkumar added four more manoeuvres are yet to take place and his entire team is highly confident about it.

He expressed confidence that with this success, Chandrayaan-2 can be carried out much ahead of the schedule.

On November 13, the spacecraft is expected to reach the 100 km polar orbit of the moon.

The distance between the earth and the moon is 3,86,000 km. (ANI)

Producer K.T.Kunjumon makes a comeback after a gap of almost a decade, with ‘Kadhalukku Maranamillai’.

Remember K.T.Kunjumon, the producer who introduced director Shankar with ‘Gentleman’? Kunjumon went on to produce many big-budget films before fading into oblivion. Now, almost one decade later, Kunjumon has re-surfaced in Kollywood.

Kunjumon’s new film has been named ‘Kadhalukku Maranamillai’ (‘Love Never Dies’). There was even a talk in the industry that once Shankar became a mega director, he could’ve done his bit to help Kunjumon.

The launch of ‘Kadhalukku Maranamillai’ was held in recently in Chennai. The surprise was that Shankar was one of the participants. Shankar was respectful in front of Kunjumon, who had given him a break as a director with ‘Gentleman’.

Shankar thanked Kunjumon in his speech for having introduced him and Kunjumon praised Shankar for ‘possessing’ the talent to survive in the industry for more than fifteen years.
