Remedy has to come from players Greg Chappell

Coach Greg Chappell on Sunday left it to the players to find a way out of the current crisis they found themselves in. He hoped the arrival of VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly would help turn around the fortunes of the Indian cricket team in the Test series against South Africa.

"The remedy has got to come from within the players. They have got to find a way to come to grips with the conditions. No one else can do it for them," said a somber Greg Chappell after his side was pummeled to a nine-wicket submission by the hosts at the Centurion Park.

"Teams go through these sorts of phases. When the confidence is down, it's hard to play with confidence. We are not playing with a great deal of it at the moment, and we need to find some." Greg Chappell has had a reputation as one of the finest batting consultant but the team's batting on this tour has been pathetic to say the least.

"It's disappointing, there's nothing more I can say. There's no finger point to put on it, we are not batting well enough," he said. "We haven't come to grips with the conditions. Nothing more, nothing less," he added. South Africa, meanwhile, are on song. The world's number two one day team enjoyed the whitewash.

Shaun Pollock was adjudged the Man of the Series for taking 10 wickets in four games and the Man of the Match for his two for 17 in Centurion. Of course, the all rounder also got a few opportunities to hit the ball, especially since he was sent at number three in the last game to provide an early finish.

Support the Indian Cricket team

The former Australian captain said his team wanted to bat as well as they could but 200 runs under the conditions wasn't good enough. "We set out to bat as well as we could, make sure we batted 50 overs but obviously 200 runs wasn't enough under the conditions," said Greg Chappell

He hoped the presence of Ganguly and Laxman would make a difference in the Test series. "We would hope so. They are experienced players and we are hoping they will make a difference," he said. Greg Chappell had run out of any messages for the Indian cricket fans though he hoped they would back his lads as much as they can.

"I can't keep giving messages to the Indian cricket fans. They just have to support the team as much as they can," Greg Chappell said. Greg Chappell hoped the injury to Sachin Tendulkar is nothing more than a bruised arm though he adopted a wait-and-see approach.
