Full Name: Mohammad Yousuf

ODI Debut: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare - Mar 28, 1998

Player Profile:

After a difficult debut against South Africa in 1997-98,Yosuf quickly established himself as a stylish world-class batsman, and a pillar of Pakistan's middle order, alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. He gathers his runs through orthodox, composed stroke play. His strength is his ability of driving through the covers and flicking wristily off his legs. His tendency to overbalance when playing across his front leg can get him into trouble. He is quick between the wickets although not necessarily the best judge of a single. There had been questions about his temperament as batsman when the pressure is on, but between 2004 and 2005, he began to silence critics. In 2006, Yousuf truly came of age in a record-breaking year. He began by plundering India and continued in England, not just scoring under pressure, but scoring big. With Inzamam nearing a natural end, the credentials of Yousuf as Pakistan's premier batsman are impressive. Yousuf is also a skillful infielder, with a report prepared by Cricinfo in late 2005 showing that since the 1999 Cricket World Cup, he had effected the ninth highest number of run-outs in ODI cricket of any fieldsman

World Cup Stats:

He has played both the World cups which have been held after his debut. His performance would stand as
M Runs HS Avg 100 50 Ct St
10 331 81* 40.99 0 2 2 0

Expectation of him in World Cup:

After having a wonderful 2006, Yosuf is expected to give a good show in this WC. He has generally not performed very well at the Windies and averages only 19, he will surely be hoping to set right this record. Placed in Group D, he would have to face the lion at its Den in Round 1, along with Zimbabwe and Ireland. Yosuf has a pretty good average against the Windies, and will want to put up a Good show in this world cup which might be his last. Pakistan which always has its string of issues will be hoping that Yosuf maintains his silky touch this year too and take them to glory.
